Humanitarian project “Comfortable Care: Upgrading the Care Environment for Bedridden Residents”

3. Applicant organization proposing the project: State Institution «Babinichsky Social Boarding House «Zvyozdny»

4. Project objective:

improving the quality of life and standards of inpatient care for bedridden residents of the nursing home by introducing new rehabilitation equipment, such as a multifunctional electric bed in the amount of 5 pieces

5.Tasks planned for implementation within the framework of the project:  

- to purchase and install a multifunctional electric medical bed in the amount of 5 pieces;

- to reduce the incidence of secondary complications (bedsores, joint contractures, and congestive pneumonia) among the target group;

- to train staff (nurses and orderlies) in proper positioning techniques and bed control panel operation.

6. Target group: residents with severe and pronounced limitations of activity (low-mobility and non-mobile residents)

7. Brief description of project activities:

Determining the location of the bed and taking the necessary measurements.
Preparing a technical specification for the tender/purchase.

Purchasing and delivering the equipment to the boarding house: a 4-section electrically, in the amount of 5 pieces, operated bed with the following features:
 • Inversion (lateral tilt) function: automatically or semi-automatically gently tilting the patient to the left or right side to relieve pressure on the tissues and prevent bedsores.
 • “Cardio Chair” function: moving the bed to a sitting position. This allows the patient to eat, read, and communicate in a natural position.
 • Integrated sanitary equipment: a retractable toilet seat controlled by a button for performing hygiene procedures directly in bed.
 • Safety: the presence of foldable side rails (to prevent falls) and quick-release backrests for emergency resuscitation.
 • Accessories: a pull-up bar (Monkey device), a bedside table, and an orthopedic sectional mattress with a waterproof cover.

Installation and adjustment. Assembly of beds, testing of electric drives, and connection of backup power.
Staff training. Training for nurses on the ergonomics of care, safety rules, and equipment operation.
Monitoring. Assessment of the residents' health status, recording the dynamics of healing/absence of bedsores.

Expected project results

• For residents: Reduction of pain syndrome, elimination of the risk of falls, prevention of bedsores, the ability to independently (using a remote control) adjust the position of the head and legs, and restoration of a sense of human dignity.
• For staff: Reducing the physical load on employees' spines, and reducing the time required for morning toilet and feeding by half.
• For the nursing home: Achieving modern standards for long-term care, and minimizing the cost of expensive anti-bedsore medications and bandages.
